The word gelatinized confuses a lot of people. It has nothing to do with gelatin, and there is nothing animal-based in it. Our maca is fully vegan.
What gelatinized means
Raw maca root is very high in starch. Gelatinizing is a gentle heat process that breaks that starch down and removes most of it. What is left is a more concentrated powder.
Why it matters
- Easier to digest. Raw maca can cause bloating or an upset stomach in some people. Gelatinized maca rarely does.
- More concentrated. With the starch gone, you get more of the active compounds in every teaspoon.
- Mixes better. It dissolves smoothly in smoothies and drinks instead of clumping.
Is anything lost?
Heat-sensitive vitamin C drops a little. The compounds maca is known for, the macamides and macaenes, are not affected. This is the form used in most maca research.
All Incaliving maca is 100 percent gelatinized, grown in the Peruvian Andes, packaged at the source and flown to the United States. See Triple Maca Powder.
